About Us

Our Start

Our founding seniors previously trained together, and a social meetup revealed continued interest. The idea of creating our own club was born. Two weeks later, the inaugural first class was held, and the rest is history!

Our Name

Shinkō (新興) means "emerging" and evokes images of new beginnings, growth, and "becoming" something. For this reason, we used it as a code-name during our startup phase, intending to come up with a permanent name later, but it ended up sticking, and now that's just our name. We think it fits!

Our Club

Shinkō Karate-kai practices Traditional Shōtōkan Karate. Our members span a range of ages, genders, and experience levels from white belts to black belts. But we all share something in common: we just love Karate!

We constantly seek new depths of knowledge, refinement in our technique, and to develop all of the mind, body, and sprit, to their full potential.

"The ultimate aim of Karate lies not in victory or defeat, but in the perfection of the character of the participant" - Gichin Funakoshi.
