Youth & Adult Karate

The three core elements of our curriculum are Kihon, Kumite, and Kata. These will be supplemented with other physical, and philosophical content to help students develop a well-rounded Karate practice.

Child doing karate
Kihon

To build anything requires a properly laid and maintained foundation. Kihon are the fundamentals of Karate. There will be some amount of Kihon in every class.

The instructor will lead students through sets of techniques appropriate for their skill level building up over time to more complex combinations.

Adult performing Gankaku kata
Kata

Kata are solo patterns representing a pre-arranged set of attacks and defenses against an imaginary opponent. By breaking down and analyzing the sequences in the kata, learning what they're meant to represent and how to apply them, we're teaching the body how to react confidently and with precision in many scenarios.

Adult doing Karate
Kumite

This "exchange of hands" is the partner work practice we do to learn all of the necessary tools for self-defense. Beginners start with prescribed attacks and defenses. Over time these exchanges will evolve from very structured and predictable to more free and unpredictable as would be a real life self-defense situation.
